The cicada's life cycle, from underground nymph to winged adult, has been seen as a metaphor for the spirits of the dead rising to eternal life. In Chinese culture, cicadas were often incorporated into jewelry and burial procedures to symbolize immortality and transformation. This charming neckpiece hangs 6 old hand carved stone cicadas. Each is capped with a star carved bovine bone bead. A large vintage gold plated brass Arabic medallion takes center stage. 2 brass cage beads from Ghana help to support the centerpiece. Pearls and brass compose the other danglers. 30" total length, adjusting shorter if need be. An Andrea Serrahn original, OOAK.
