VINTAGE DAMASCENE PENDANT
Intricate jewelry with engraved and ornamented metal inlays (silver or gold), and black enamel can be traced back to Damascus, the capital of Syria. This method of metalwork started more than 2,000 years ago. It was later brought to the Iberian Peninsula with the invasion of the Moors in the early eighth century. It is now found primarily in Spain but still referred to as damascening. Our necklace (one of a kind, of course) was designed around this beautifully intricate pendant, framed in filigree and decorated with birds and flowers. The strand has Czech glass beads, brass spacer beads, faceted, cubed and lentil-shaped tiger's eye, and a scalloped floral toggle clasp. It's 22" long and the pendant is 2.25" long by 1.50" wide.
